The University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's and Women's Hospital is a 1.1 million square foot state-of-the-art inpatient facility for children and women. This facility consists on 9 floors of clinic and 12 floors of inpatient plus associated penthouses for mechanical equipment. This facility is being designed and built utilizing the latest LEED technology. Construction began in October 2006 and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2012. HKS Architects, P.C. is the design team and Barton Malow Company is the Construction Manager. Wolverine Fire Protection Co. is the fire protection subcontractor for the project and is designing, fabricating and installing the fire protection systems for this facility. The fire protection system consists of a fire pump fed combination 9-standpipe system, utilizing pressure regulating fire hose valves.
The sprinkler systems, including 13 dry systems, 17 double interlocked pre-action systems, 34 wet systems and 1 foam-water system, are connected to the standpipe system via pressure reducing valves. The loading dock, exterior canopies, emergency generator rooms, main electrical rooms and roof elevator machine rooms are protected with dry sprinkler systems. The operating rooms, resuscitation rooms, MRI rooms, c-section rooms and cardiac cath labs are protected with double-interlocked pre-action sprinkler systems utilizing cross-zoned detection. The Heliport is protected with an AFFF foam water system. |
